Lustred jewels and promises draw our eye,
Halt us in our tracks. Spellstopt by words
we foolishly took for wisdom.
They’re no more than paste baubles.
A cheap trick. Yank on the
fraying string and watch
them skittering
down the path
one by
one.

Gosh this is absolutely mesmerizing! I love; “Spellstopt by words,”.. so creative! Thank you so much for writing to the prompt ❤️❤️

Aah, thank you so much Sanaa! And thank you for the prompt – such a great word to use in a poem. I cannot claim ‘spellstopt’ however, (wish I had), it is in my dictionary.

Love the ending. The words and the line breaks are so perfectly chosen

Thank you so much JYP! I enjoy writing reversed etherees – the diminishing syllables really suit some images.

Great poem. I like the way you described the truth being revealed at the end and your use of these words, “Spellstopt by words.”

Yes, “yank on the … chain!” I’d get slapped and then probably kicked!!” And sued because I’m not Johnny Depp.

Nice! Great merge of the form with the sense of the poem! One lone pearl on the string at the end!

Love the idea, Marion! One way of looking at it. Many things may not be what they really are. Wonderful form!
